Contracts 101
Contracts help lay out clear terms to ensure both parties are satisfied with the outcome. They help you, I promise! They may seem scary, daunting, or just way too long at times - so you sign without fully reading them. Or you sign without trying to negotiate.
I have negotiated favorable outcomes for my clients a countless number of times. Many of these deals came *after* a lawsuit was already filed (meaning that the person on the other side of that lawsuit was already angry, already didn’t like me, and was only willing to give my client the bare minimum just to go away).
The good news: if you’re in the midst of negotiating a contract with another party for goods/services/advertising, you’re already in a *much* better position than you think you are! No one has sued anyone, and everyone is excited, happy, and willing to negotiate!
Don’t be intimidated by the other party or the process. Remember that each of you NEEDS the other to seal that awesome deal! Know your value, and push to get the terms YOU want to see in that contract. Do your research. Ask for more money if you can. Eliminate/reword clauses that negatively effect you. There is ALWAYS room to negotiate!
Finally, don’t get “caught looking!” NEVER sign something that you don’t understand 100% - whether that means Googling a term/phrase or talking to an attorney! Got a question? Email me!
