Starting a Brand

BEFORE you spend thousands on building your business and brand, please read this (save + send to your biz BFF!)

As we’re building, we’re the copywriter, the accountant, the marketing team, the content manager, the lawyer - all of the roles.

I work with lots of clients building brands, and TBH there's really crucial times to have an attorney on-call.

Why? Working with a lawyer early can help you feel more confident before venturing into the deep blue business sea.

Oh, and we can potentially save you thousands fixing legal mistakes before they happen:

• dealing with a cease and desist letter
• handling an ugly contract dispute
• having to re-branding entirely

That said, here are the areas where I see business owners making the most mistakes (that their attorney wouldn’t have let them make happy):

A Comprehensive Trademark Search for your business name! Google is simply not enough, nor is a quick-check of the USPTO register. Working with an attorney who knows the ins-and-outs of where to check for you could save you time, energy, and lots of money.

Piecing together your contracts/terms from Google. Contract disputes sometimes come down to a single sentence, or even a few words - so copy/pasting an entire agreement you found online could be more harmful than helpful.

Heading into a business, collaboration, or partnership with someone without assessing the legal implications first. It’s not always just about the money - often times we’re not even aware of intellectual property issues we face the minute we bring someone else into our business bubble. Who owns each part of what has been created - and what happens if we need to start dividing or splitting assets?

Getting too far ahead of themselves with no legal strategy (yes, it changes as we grow) to accommodate new business relationships, new intellectual property + ideas, etc.

If you’re ready to hire an attorney that will provide specific advice and customize your business’ legal protection strategy, The Legalmiga®️ Membership is your next step!

(pssst...applications re-open very VERY soon so hop on the waitlist because spaces will be limited link in bio).
