Contracts 101

Let me preface this by saying that contract templates can absolutely work for you and your business. (I may or may not be rolling some out in the near future). ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
They are convenient, and usually a far more affordable option to hiring an attorney for your specific project. And honestly, contract language usually sounds scary/boring, and is the last thing going through your beautifully creative mind (cue “All of Me” by John Legend 🎶)⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you absolutely have to use a template, at the very least try to make sure it has been drafted by an attorney. There are countless template contracts floating around on the Internet - just be careful with where you find your contract: Who drafted it? Is it applicable to what you need? Do you fully understand it? ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
That being said, there really is no *true* substitute for working with an attorney to craft a contract that is specific to your business/transaction needs. Why? ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
We are educated in this area. ⁣⁣⁣
We know the lingo. ⁣⁣
We live for verbosity. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
You really win, though, when you’re working WITH your attorney. Not only will we write up an amazing agreement for you, but you are learning and understanding what the agreement says and how it is implemented. So when you provide it to your client/vendor/etc., and they question a clause or try and negotiate, you have the tools to address their concerns like the calm, cool & collected boss babe that you are. ⁣⁣
