Contract Calamities
Be on the lookout for these super-common contract mistakes I see.
(I know, contracts, bleh.)
They’re long. They’re confusing. They’re sometimes awkward to implement. ⠀
But I promise you, that ONE time you need it in writing, you’ll be SO GLAD we had this talk.
⠀
Plus, contracts elevate your professionalism. Want to be taken seriously? Present your own contract when it comes time to seal the deal.

⠀
Governing Law: if you’re in CA and the other party is in a different state - review what law will apply to your agreement. (hint: you want your state law to apply!)⠀
⠀
Intellectual Property: Trademarks and copyrights - hang onto them! You could be accidentally *giving away* your intellectual property rights by working with a partner or collaborator if this isn’t properly addressed in your agreement. ⠀
⠀
Term: I don’t just mean does your agreement lay out a start date and an end date. Check to see if there is a way for you to get OUT of the agreement if the other party isn’t pulling their weight. (this happens a lot). ⠀
⠀
Signature: Are you and the other party signing on the dotted line as the correct individual/entity? (i.e. - If you have an LLC, are you signing as the owner or as your individual self?)⠀

PS - @thelegalmigalibrary is releasing BRAND NEW contract templates soon so follow to see if it’s the one you’ve been asking for.
