Homebased Businesses

Are you currently running or thinking about starting a home-based business?

Make sure you have these things covered before we have to go back + “start from scratch”

1. Business License: Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you’re not a legit business, honey! You still need a business license to operate any type of business in any city. (Yes, even if it is “just a side hustle” or part-time). Check your local city requirements (because you need to clear your business through your city).

2. Seller’s Permits/Home Occupational Permit: If you’re selling products subject to tax at retail, you’ll need a seller’s permit. Many cities have also caught up with home-based businesses and even have an additional permit they require for a home-based occupation. Check this potential requirement, too.

3. Mailing Address: If you don’t want your home address publicized, I don’t blame you. A P.O. Box, UPS address, or virtual address can be great. Just make sure that your industry does not have additional requirements for where you may host a business address, etc.

4. Lease/HOA requirements: If you’re renting or part of an HOA, make sure that there’s nothing in those agreements prohibiting you from running a business. Even if not, it’s always good to clear your intentions with your landlord in writing to ensure that they’ve approved of your endeavors!

Please share with your home-based biz besties!
