Credit Card Chargebacks
Over 87% of you said you do this.
How do I know? Because I asked you.
[Save this in case this happens to you!]
Most of you (over 87%) allow credit card payments from clients or customers.
Which is fine, but...
...the unfortunate part for business owners in this situation is that it leaves you vulnerable to potential chargeback disputes.
What is a chargeback???
A chargeback is a charge that is returned to your client or customer after they have successfully disputed a credit card charge with their bank.
Here's the thing with Chargebacks. They are a HUGE inconvenience. And there's no concrete rules on how to win them (because the bank ultimately decides who “wins”).
1. The best thing you can do? Be *as prepared as humanly possible* with all the proof you can provide if this happens to you. For me, this meant adding a Chargeback Policy to my 1:1 Client Agreements (& I’m sharing mine with you for free! Link in bio).
2.Here’s 3 things you can do to prevent + protect against Chargebacks:
Have a solid client contract, and/or terms & conditions in place (which include a chargeback policy). Banks want to see as much documentation as possible.
3.Have good customer service. This seems simple enough, but if you have a tight refund policy, always see what you can do to help out a dissatisfied customer first (this also helps with your paper trail! 📝 See what I did there?)
4.Have contact information posted publicly and clearly. PLUS be responsive with whatever contact point you’ve given your customers!
There ya have it! Questions? DM me.
